A few day after placing an order you can email us at sales@conceptblindsdirect.co.uk with your order number and we can supply you with dispatch and delivery dates.
Whilst our dispatch and delivery dates are usually accurate they can alter slightly during times of low or high demand. Goods can then leave slightly ahead or behind schedule. We will always email you to let you know your goods have been dispatched.
- What is the best blind for each room in my home?
We have compiled a list of recommended blind types for each room in your home. Use the “Shop By Room” feature to access this.
Generally, any blind can be used in any room with these important exceptions;
- Never use a real wood venetian blind in a kitchen or bathroom
- Never use a real wood venetian or faux wood venetian in a conservatory
- Which blinds are child safe?
All of our blinds adhere to Child Safety Legislation. Our cord or chain operated blinds are supplied with discrete child safety devices which keep cords and chains secured away and out of reach from little ones. In accordance with legislation all cords / chains must hang at least 150cm off of the floor and our blinds are manufactured with that in mind.
A number of blind ranges are designed and manufactured in such a way to make them in inherently child safe with no cords or chains present. These blinds are a good solution if your child is an amateur climber, as many toddlers can be! If you are looking for this blind type then follow this link https://conceptblinds.wcltest.com/shop-by-room/kids-bedroom
- What does Installation Measurement mean?
- The Installation Measurement is the distance from where the top of the blind will be installed down to the floor.
- You only need to input an installation measurement if the distance from where the very top of the blind will be, down to the floor is 210cm or more.
- In accordance with child safety legislation all cords / chains must hang at least 150cm off of the floor. Our blinds are manufactured with that in mind. We will automatically make the chains/cords on your blinds approximately two thirds of the blind height you have inputted. This should enable you to reach the cords easily but also keep them away from the floor.
- If however you have a window that is very high up (the measurement from the top of where the blind will be installed down to the floor is 200cm or more) then you will need a longer than usual chain or cord for you to comfortably reach. You can add your installation measurement and we can then make the cords/ chain longer but still within child safety parameters.
- When you come to install your blinds do double check that the bottoms of all cords/chains are 150cm from the floor and let us know if they are not so we can provide assistance to correct this.
- How do I make my older, existing blinds child safe?
If you have blinds with hanging cords and chains that were purchased before the child safety legislation was introduced (approximately March 2014) then you can do a few things to make them safer. You can install a cord cleat or safety hook to keep dangling cords out of reach and under tension. If you need safety hooks or cord cleats for older blinds in your home just let us know when you place your order and we can send out some extra ones to you free of charge.
- How do I select the best blind for me?
There are few things to consider when looking for a new blind and you can decide the level of importance you assign to each of these factors;
- Cost and your personal budget
- Location of window, privacy levels and light control needed.
- The look you are trying to achieve in the room and colour/style you like
- Your window type and the installation situation you have
- Your level of DIY skill and the tools available to you for the installation
- Who will be using the blind and how will they be using it (consider children and pets in the home too)
There is a detailed blog post exploring all of these factors in greater depth via this link https://www.conceptblindsdirect.co.uk/blog.html
Usually, the most important factors for customers tend to be (i) appearance and (ii) cost so I will discuss these in slightly more detail here;
- Appearance - A blind will make a big impact on any room so please do order free samples first to ensure you will be happy with the final blind. Lighter colours can brighten up a room and darker ones can dull it down. The colour of your walls will make a difference to how the blind looks too. Roller, vertical and pleated fabrics tend to look different in the night time opposed to the daytime when sunlight is shining on/through them. It is good idea to tape fabric sample to the window for a day or so you can see how the light (artificial and natural) impacts upon the colour and pattern- enhancing or overpowering it. This will help you select the best fabric and colour for your room.
- Cost - Good value for money is important so ordering free samples enables you to view the thickness and quality of the fabrics so you can get the best fabric for your individual budget. Fabrics are organised on the website with the least expensive at the top of each range, gradually increasing in cost with the most expensive fabrics at the end of each range. All the fabrics we sell are of a great quality. Some fabrics may be inexpensive due to the large volumes of it we sell, enabling us to purchase many rolls of that fabric at a discounted price. We then pass these savings on to you. With Concept Blinds Direct low cost does not mean low quality.
The key point to remember is always order your free samples before placing a blind order. Take time to view your samples in room the blind is to be installed in under natural and artificial light. Then once you a sure you are happy with your choice, order your blinds. This will ensure you get the best blind for you.
- I am on a strict budget. What are the most cost effective blinds?
We have regular Sales to ensure all customers get a chance to obtain the best prices on their blinds. However we would have to say that roller and vertical blinds are probably the most cost effective blind types. Verticals are very good at covering large windows at a great price point. Vertical blinds have come a long way since they were used in offices. We have lots of vivid colours and patterned vertical fabrics making them much more homely and stylish. Rollers come in lots of different colours and patterns as well as in blackout fabrics. They are great for customers on strict budgets and can look deceptively expensive with the addition of the metal chain or eyelet options.
Fabrics are organised on the website with the least expensive at the top of each range, gradually increasing in cost with the most expensive fabrics at the end of each range. You can input your rough measurements on any fabric to get a guide price to help you decide where you want to draw the line cost wise. You can then order samples only in fabrics that suit your budget. All prices on the website include VAT so once you have made your selections such as lining or chain type the price you then see is the true price of the product. There is a delivery charge on orders of £9.99 for mainland UK addresses.
- Which are the best blinds for homes with cats and dogs?
Cats and dogs can have a tendency to jump up at windows or sit on window sills and can end up getting caught in blinds. Some dogs have even been known to chew on blinds and damage them. If you have a pet with those tendencies, then here are some options to keep both your furry friends and your blinds safe and sound;
- Wand controlled verticals with chainless fabric weights – this blind type has no chains for your pets to get caught up in
- Rigid PVC verticals – these do not have chains across the bottom
- Rollers or Romans – you can raise these up out of reach off the window sill when you are not home
- Perfect Fit Blinds – these fit in the glass area of uPVC double glazed windows so keep the window sill free from obstructions
- What does blackout mean in relation to your blackout blinds?
Blackout means no light will penetrate the blind fabric. There will be light leakage between where the blind meets your walls. Light is like water and will seek out any gap to escape from. There are specialist blackout products which look to block all the edges of the windows, but this is not something we sell.
Our blackout blinds will stop a significant amount of light from entering the room. It will also offer great privacy during the evenings when it is dark outside and light inside your room, (unlike net curtains which become see through in those conditions).
If you are very sensitive to light when sleeping, have young children, work night shifts or have a lamp post outside of your home then a blackout blind is recommended.
The best blackout options are:
Blackout lined romans – situated inside of a window recess will offer the best blackout we can offer. If measured for correctly the fabric will sit close to your recess walls and will minimise light leakage.
Perfect fit blackout rollers – for uPVC windows these offer a great blackout option.
You might also want to consider mix and match options such as perfect fit blackout rollers with a blackout roman or a blackout roller with blackout curtains. Layering like this will increase the blackout effect by limiting light leakage from the edges of the blinds.
Other tips are to order your blackout blind in a darker colour. White/bright fabrics will tend to bounce light about from the edges of the window where it leaks in. You may also want to consider painting the wall around the window a darker colour to absorb as much light as possible rather than bouncing it about and emphasising it.
- Are blinds easy to measure and fit?
Yes, our Blinds are generally easy to measure for and fit. We have comprehensive measuring and fitting instructions for all blinds on our website. Have a read through these and then email us if you have any further questions.
We have a trained and experienced blind fitter on staff who can arrange to telephone customers who need a bit of extra help and advice. Just ask and we will help. In cases where you might have a complex installation we might ask you to email us photos so we can provide more tailored advice.
If we think that we cannot advise you due to a unique window type or a tricky installation situation we will suggest you seek guidance from a company that can come out to measure and fit for you. 99% of the time customers can easily measure and fit their own blinds but there are rare cases when DIY is not an option and an experienced blind fitter is needed for the job.
- Can I hire someone else to fit my blinds?
Yes; some customers do not have the tools or time to install the blinds themselves so hire a blind fitter to do this for them.
If you opt to hire someone else to fit your blinds do check that they know how to install blinds. Some builders, window fitters, maintenance people etc claim to be able to fit blinds but then run into problems. They will then claim the blinds are defective when they have just not installed them correctly. Do hire someone who knows how to install blinds. Your fitter can always contact us if they want to double check anything or if they need advice on an installation.
Do not book your fitter until you have received your blinds and have unpacked them. When you unpack them check to ensure they have not been damaged in transit by the courier and ensure you have all the components that come with the blind to install it. Our fitting guide will list the components that should be with the product.
- How do I measure for a bay window?
Once you have decided on the exact blind you are going to order have a read through our how to measure guide for full details on how to measure a bay window. Then drop us an email with the details of the blind you are planning to order and we will supply you with the headrail dimensions so you can measure accurately. If you need further help we have a trained and experienced blind fitter on staff who can arrange to telephone customers who need a bit of extra guidance and advice. Just ask for this and we will book in a call for you to discuss your bay window measuring.
- What’s the difference between Recess and Exact sizes?
An exact size blind will be made exactly to the measurements you entered onto the site. We will not make deductions to your sizes. If you want the blind to go on the outside of your window recess this is the type of measurement you should give us. For wood and faux wood venetians ordered as Exact size the pelmets will also come as mitred with end returns.
A recess size measurement is needed for a blind that you would like to fit within the recess of your window. You take the measurements of your window recess and we make deductions to ensure the blind will fit perfectly within these.
For woods and faux wood venetians ordered as Recess size the pelmet will be supplied as square cut with no end returns.
If you window has tiles fitted within part of the recess, don’t forget to measure between the tiles as this will usually be the narrowest part of the window. Please see our how to measure guide for further details.
Feel free to email us at sales@conceptblindsdirect.co.uk if you have further questions.
- Do the Blinds come with everything required to install them?
Every blind supplied by us comes complete with brackets but you will need purchase rawl plugs and screws to complete your installation.
If you are fitting to the underside of a plastered surface with a lintel above, you will require a power drill and appropriate drill bit.
In modern properties the lintels above windows are often metal and we would recommend drilling into these using a 3mm high speed metal twist drill. This will then enable you to fix the blind using 40mm x 8’s self tapping screws.
In older properties of more than say 40 years old, the lintels above windows are often pre stressed concrete lintels and for these we would recommend a hammer drill with a 5.5mm or 6mm tungsten tipped drill bit. This will then enable you to insert a red plastic plug into the hole you have drilled and fix the blind brackets using 40mm x 8’s self tapping or wood screws.
Please have a look at our fitting guide for further information or email us at sales@conceptblindsdirect.co.uk if you need further guidance on an installation.
- I have had a delivery but not all of my blinds are here. What do I do?
If you have ordered blinds from different ranges they will often be made at different factories so will be delivered separately due to differences in manufacturing times and locations. (See FAQ 16 for the list of our manufacturing sites and lead times for each blind range). Email us at sales@conceptblindsdirect.co.uk to let us know which blinds have not been delivered and we can let you know the dispatch date for the remainder of your order.
If all your blinds have been ordered in the same range then any missing items will be delivered the following working day. They have just accidentally been separated in transit by the courier during their journey from the factory to your local delivery depot and have not been loaded on to the van for that day’s deliveries.
Sometimes goods have been lost or damaged in transit.
If your missing items do not arrive the following working day have a look through the items delivered, opening the boxes if necessary, and compare what has been received to the blinds on your email copy of your order to find out which sizes are missing. Once you know which items are missing just drop us an email at sales@conceptblindsdirect.co.uk to let us know what you are missing. We can then locate these items for you.
All deliveries are fully insured so if the courier has lost or damaged your items we can get these remade for you. Remakes are always prioritised on the production line so they dispatch as quickly as possible for to you.

All deliveries are fully insured. We will always arrange to repair or replace any items damaged in transit. We do need to be notified of damage within a week of receipt of your delivery.
Check over the contents of the box and if you do find any damage to your blinds then send us an email at sales@conceptblindsdirect.co.uk to let us the following;
- your order number or name and address,
- the blind size that has arrived damaged,
- a brief description of damage
- a photo of the damage
These details are needed for the courier’s insurance and also to make sure we remake the correct item that you need.
Remakes are always prioritised on the production line so they dispatch as quickly as possible for to you. We will then email you to let you know when your remake will be ready for dispatch.
I think I have received blinds the wrong size! What do I do?
Sometimes the sizes on the box reflect the slat pack or fabric roll your blind was cut from rather than the size of the blind inside of the box. (This is due to our effort to reduce waste by reusing packaging).
Please carefully measure the blinds we have sent you and check your order confirmation e-mail for the sizes you requested. Remember for blinds ordered as Recess Size we will have made small reductions in the sizes you ordered to allow for the blinds to fit inside your recess.
For perfect fit blinds the blinds themselves will be slightly smaller than your ordered sizes as the perfect fit frame will slightly overlap your glass area and the blind will then fit inside this frame.
We do also work under an industry standard manufacturer’s tolerance of plus/minus 5mm.
If you find after these checks that the actual size we have sent you is incorrect please email sales@conceptblindsdirect.co.uk with photos to illustrate the size the blind has arrived to you. We can then arrange a remake of your item for you. When you email us please include your order number or name and address as well as the details of the blind in question.
- I have ordered the wrong size blinds! Can I return them?
All of our Blinds are made to measure and we are therefore unable to accept returns. Once a blind is cut to size in your choice of colour we are unable to reuse these materials or resell this item. Unfortunately if you order at the wrong size you will need to remeasure and then reorder at your correct size.
You may be able to make use of the blind at a different window in your home. Do have a measure of your other windows to see if it may fit there. Some blind types can be cut down a bit further to fit a smaller window. Let us know if you need details on how to do this.
- The Louvres on my Vertical are not lining up! How can I fix this?
This is easily rectified; when the Vertical blind is closed, pull the beaded chain until the slats are in the closed position. Then gently force the chain past the point of closure so the carriers can realign. Don't worry if you hear a grinding noise from the head rail as this is perfectly normal.
- I have just put up my Vertical Blind and the louvres won’t turn!
Most likely you have accidentally hung the louvres onto the head rail whilst the hooks inside the headrail were in the closed position. You need to take the louvres off the head rail and then turn the chain round until the eyes of the hooks are facing into the room, turn them slightly (25 degrees) and re-hang the louvres from one end to the other. This means that when you re-hang the louvres, you'll be able to see through them and out of your window. Your louvres should now rotate without any problems.
- My perfect fit frames are not sitting flush to the window frames. How do I correct this?
Unless the depth of the glass on your window is exactly on one of our available bracket sizes, there can be a tiny gap between the back of the blind frame and the front of the window frame. This is normal and should not be very noticeable. It will not impair the functioning of the blind. Depending on the gap size, and customer preference some customers install "draft excluder" tape between the two areas to close the gap.
If however there is a very large unexpected gap there is a possibility that you have measured your bracket size incorrectly or the wrong sized brackets have accidentally been packed in with your order. Double check your order to see which brackets you ordered then double check the brackets we have sent you. The bracket size is embossed onto the bracket itself. Holding them up to the light will make the size easier to read. Finally re-measure the distance between your glass to your window frame to check your bracket measurement. Check our how to measure guide if you need a reminder on how to do this. Let us know if you have ordered or been sent the wrong bracket size and we can get the correct brackets sent out to you.
- The slats on my aluminium venetian blind are not turning.
There are a few simple and easy fixes if you are having problems with your aluminium venetian slats not turning. If none of the fixes below solve the problem then contact us at sales@conceptblindsdirect.co.uk for further assistance.
If you look at the blind which has been installed, along the top of the head rail, you will see some silver tabs on the very top lip. These tabs indicate where the brackets have been installed. If any of these tabs are in line with the cords which run down through the slats, this will be the cause of the problem as the bracket will be interfering with the tilt mechanism. If you move your brackets placement away from the cords this will allow the slats to rotate freely.
If your brackets have been placed correctly, you will next need to take the blind down from the brackets. Inside the blind headrail, you will see that there is a silver semi-circular bar which runs the width of the rail. This is the tilt bar. The tilt bar should be pushed through a clear housing just above the tilt wand and protruding all the way through a semi-circular hole in this mechanism. If it is not, this will be the cause of the problem. Push the tilt bar back in place and now your slats will turn.
If the bar is pushed through this mechanism fully, the only remaining problem will be the cord cylinders. if you follow the cords which run through the slats to the top of the head rail, you will see little white cylinders sat inside little plastic cradles. These cylinders should be pushed snugly into each of these cradles. If one has come slightly loose, you can just pop it back into place and this will fix the problem.
Occasionally the ceiling part of the recess is bowed in the middle. If the blind has been fitted tight up to the ceiling of the recess on both sides, the bow in the ceiling will cause the centre mechanisms to be trapped and thus impede smooth rotation of the slats. If this is the case, re-fix the end brackets slightly lower until the centre of the blind runs freely.
- The slats on my wood / faux wood venetian blind are not turning.
There are a few simple and easy fixes if you are having problems with your wood venetian slats not turning. If none of the fixes below solve the problem then contact us at sales@conceptblindsdirect.co.uk for further assistance.
Remove the blind from the brackets. Inside the rail, you will see that there is a square bar which runs the width of the rail. This is the tilt bar. The tilt bar should be pushed through the housing just above the tilt cords and protruding all the way through a square hole in this mechanism. If it is not, this will be the cause of the problem. Before you go to push the square bar through the mechanism, please ensure that the tilt cords are as even as you can make them. Once even, push through the tilt bar and your blind should now function properly.
If you look at the blind which has been installed, along the top of the head rail, you will see support brackets. If any of these brackets have been fitted in line with the cords which run down through the slats, this will be the cause of the problem as the brackets will be interfering with the tilt mechanism. Move the bracket further along and reinstall the blind.
The final causes here, might be the cord cylinders. If you follow the cords which run through the slats to the top of the head rail, you will see little white cylinders sat inside little plastic cradles. These cylinders should be pushed snugly into each of these cradles. If one has come slightly loose, you can just pop it back in to place which will solve the rotation issue.
- My wood/ faux wood venetian blinds are not raising and lowering correctly.
There are a few simple and easy fixes if you are having this problem. If none of the fixes below solve the problem then contact us at sales@conceptblindsdirect.co.uk and we will provide further assistance.
If you look at the top of the rail, there is a small silver bar in front of the brass coloured cogs through which the raise/lower cords come out from the head rail. This bar will already have a slight bend in it. Occasionally, the bend in this bar is not pronounced enough and will need bending a little bit more so that the cords can be moved left and right sufficiently to lock and release when the cords are moved left and right. You can use a small screw driver to bend this bar a little bit more.
If you look along the top of the head rail, you will see support brackets. If any of these brackets have been fitted in line with the cords which run down through the slats, this will be the cause of the problem as the brackets will be interfering with the function of the blind. If you move the brackets away from the cords this should resolve the issue.
Once the two issues, above, are ruled out, the next thing to look at is the raise/lower mechanism itself. The way the mechanism works is by closing the teeth of two cogs together to lock the cords in place (pulling the cords down and to the right) and releasing the teeth on the cogs (when the cords are pulled down and to the left) when raising/lowering the blind. Occasionally, the cogs can become a little bit sticky after being used. To rectify the "stickiness" you can spray a generous amount of WD40 or silicon spray, directly on to the brass cogs. If you do this while moving the cords left and right, opening and closing the cogs, this will work the lubricant in to the gears and should allow the blind to operate properly.
- How many samples can I order?
We offer up to 10 free samples which we think will allow you a good base for comparison. If you cannot find what you need amongst them once received, then just email us for further assistance. We can then send further free samples based on what you have already received using what you have liked and disliked to help guide us to find your perfect fabric.
Our samples are always sent out by First Class Mail and should reach you within 2 to 5 days of ordering. In the event of your samples not arriving, please email us at sales@conceptblindsdirect.co.uk. and we will ensure that the samples required are re-sent.
- My blind has just arrived but looks slightly different from my free sample.
Due to the nature of using fabric dyes and stains alongside natural materials such as wood, cotton and linen the absorption rate will differ from material to material. We cannot therefore guarantee that the finished blind(s) will be exactly the same shade as the free sample despatched to you but it will be very, very close.
With wood venetians the look of each slat will reflect this natural effect the most. Slight imperfections or differences in the timber will alter colour just as the width between the grain will affect the absorbency of the stain.
If you ordered your sample many months ago and then ordered your blinds recently it could be that new batch of fabric/ wood is now being used which is slightly different from the batch being used at the time you ordered your sample. Whilst we do our best to colour match from batch to batch over large time periods differences may be noticeable.
A further thing to consider if you have ordered a roller or vertical blind is that the fabric, when rolled up together in its packaging, can look much darker. However once the blind is installed and light is coming through the material the colour will look as you expected when you selected it based on the sample.
- What are your Wood Venetians made of?
We manufacture all of our wood blinds from the finest Basswood all of which is grown in sustainable forests. All the timber used in our wood venetian blinds is kiln dried, adding to the overall strength and longevity of the blinds whilst reducing the risk of warping to an absolute minimum.
- Are Your Roman Blinds Lined?
All of our Roman Blinds come fully lined as standard. We are also able to offer blackout lining and interlining. All lining is off white/cream in colour.
- What type of blinds do you recommend for bathrooms & Kitchens?
Bathrooms and kitchens tend to be steamy, so it's best to choose a blind that can cope with these conditions. Therefore we would advise you to avoid a real wood blind in a bathroom as the moisture in the air could cause warping. Instead we would recommend a faux wood or aluminium venetian.
If your window is away from the bath or sink and dampness is not a major issue, Roller Blinds can offer a soft and attractive addition to your Bathroom Décor. We offer a huge range of roller fabrics, finishes and colours so you are sure to find something that suits your bathroom. Take a look at our full list of recommendations, by following this link: bathroom and kitchen recommendations.
- I would like blinds in my conservatory. What type of blinds do you recommend?
Certainly, the most popular types of blinds for conservatories are Vertical blinds and Pleated blinds.
Vertical blinds are a great option as they are relatively inexpensive, offer great light control and can offer the customer privacy while still allowing light into the room. Pleated Blinds have been developed for use in Conservatories and sun rooms. Many of our Pleated Fabrics have a solar reflective coating on the reverse face of the fabric, thus enabling them to reflect a large percentage of the suns rays and thus keep the conservatory cooler than would be the case with other blinds. Our pleated blinds also draw up into a small profile rendering the blinds unobtrusive when not in use. We have an option of white or Brown head rails to suit most types of conservatory.Take a look at our full list of recommendations, by following this link: conservatory recommendations.
- Can you supply blinds for my angled roof windows?
We do supply a range of both standard and blackout roller blinds for skylight windows, which you can find here.
For other types of specialist blinds such as “conservatory roof” blinds which require tensioning we are only able to supply to our Trade customers. This is because there are many complex steps for both measuring and installing roof blinds correctly. It would be very difficult to for a person with no specialist training and experience to be able to measure and install this blind type successfully. We would instead recommend sourcing a local roof blind company who will come out to site to measure and install these type of blinds for you. You will pay more for the privilege, but you can then be confident that your roof blinds will fit and operate, correctly.
- What is the best way to cover a very large window?
Vertical blinds are the best way to cover a large window at an affordable price. Aluminium venetians are also a good option. If the window has a natural divide you can look at fitting two smaller blinds rather than one single on and then this gives you more blind types to select from.
If you are unsure of the blind type that would work best for you window just drop us a email with details of the window and we can offer you some suggestions.
- Do you sell vertical slats on their own without a headrail?
Although this is not a service we offer through our website, we can supply replacement slats for you in most of our vertical fabrics.
To obtain a quote for slats only email us to let us know the following information:
- the name of the fabric you would like,
- the slat width - 89mm or 127mm. This has to be the same as the current slat width you have installed.
- the number of slats you require
- and the fabric length (vertical measurement hem to hem/ end to end of original slats in place now) or the recess height (from top of recess ignoring headrail down to the windowsill). Specify if you are supplying the fabric length or recess height. Please supply measurements in centimetres
Sometimes there is not much of a difference in cost between slats only and a full vertical blind as the majority of the cost of a vertical is the cost of the fabric slats. It is worth pricing up for a full blind on our website so you can opt for the most cost effective option for you.
- Can you supply blinds for bi-fold or sliding patio doors?
We are currently unable to offer a solution where blinds can be installed directly onto a bi-fold or sliding patio door. Instead, we have to recommend that customers look at solutions which can be installed in front of the doors and are either drawn back to one side, or raised up out the way. If you would like some advice here, please forward through one or two photos illustrating your doors and we can then offer some advice on the type of blinds to consider.
